Implementing multi-modal integrated communications capabilities for New York City Transit (NYCT)
Summary

Smart Cities evolution is being implemented by municipalities and transit agencies. Real-time information is required across the entire operator’s network. This includes integrated public address, passenger infotainment, media/advertising, CCTV and wireless connectivity.

Provide the ability to network and integrate information across an entire fleet and operational network. Connect information from multiple data sources into a single information reference

Solution

The advanced TRANSIS-Train communication system from CSiT powered by Kontron’s TRACe™ computing products. For the NYCT trial, TRANSIS-Train is running on Kontron’s TRACe B304-TR and TRACe V304-TR EN50155-certified fanless transportation computers and two TRACe-HMI-D104 driver consoles that have been fully validated.

Results

The deployement of effective and reliable communications thanks to the interoperability between disparate sub-systems. Kontron’s TRACe products deliver the commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) open architecture computing technologies that allow CSiT to offer maximum scalability and ease of upgradeability to their transit agency customers TRACe platforms are completely compatible with CSiT’s system solutions helping to make the “connected train” for Smart Cities a reality

Providing an infotainment/security system on major US railway line

Summary

The next generation of high-speed trains in the US Northeast Corridor and a new suburban train project in California need a complete infotainment/security system that provides real-time information and management for an informed, safe travel experience.

Challenge

Handle multiple sub-systems while maintaining a high degree of availability

Solution

The cohesive, total system from Centum Adetel powered by Kontron TRACe-V, which provides a high capacity video recording data storage, and the TRACe-G, a certified Gateway enabling data connectivity to wayside back-office operation systems. TRACe products support all infotainment and video surveillance sub-systems, which include a PIS (Passenger Information System) with LED and LCD displays and a VSS (Video Surveillance System) that supports multiple digital cameras with varying lens configurations and a large storage capacity. The COTS open architecture from Kontron can be easily adapted to the requirements of operations in the rail environment.

Results

The operator will realize improved fleet information management, real-time information access and broadcast message priority management with hearing impaired assistance. Security is enhanced from a broad surveillance system that offers complete CCTV coverage. System maintenance is also simplified from a common interface for all equipment.
